Education for me did not come easy I was the type of student that struggled in Elementary School. English being my second language didn't make things easier. I remember 6th grade was an life changing experience for me. About mid- way through the year my teacher sat down with me and informed me if I did not pick up my grades, I was in jeopardy of being held back. This was a wake up call for me. About Me
My name is Jiwan Tiwana and I was born and raised in India. My family and I moved to America in 1997. I am the middle child and surrounded by two sisters. Being the only boy in the family continues to be challenging task due to my culture. My parents want to give my siblings and I the best chance to succeed in life. They want to give us the opportunities they never had as children. That is one thing I have always realized and has been a motivational factor in my educational career. I graduated from Caruthers High School in 2008. I graduated with honors and top 10 in my class. After High School I attended Fresno State majoring in Bio-Physiology and Anatomy with emphasis in pre-med. Recently I went abroad to study in China for a year for cultural experience. I can say I know how to speak 4 different languages; Chinese, English, Punjabi, and Hindi. Now back in the America, I will be attending CSU Bakersfield next fall and continuing my goal toward becoming a doctor.
fresno">Tutoring as always been a interest of mine. I love sharing the knowledge I have obtained over the years. Education is at its best when shared with others. I have been fresno">tutoring at Elementary School After-School Program in Caruthers, CA for the past 6 years. I started out as an student leader fresno">tutor in High School and worked my way up the ranks into becoming a instructor, to the point where I managed my own class. Depending on the day, my class can range from 15 to 25 students.
My fresno">tutoring approach has always been to motivate the student in sharing educational experiences and relate to student in some manner to understand their strengths and weakness. Assessing the problem with the student and figuring out more than one strategy to solve the problem is the one of the best methods. The student not only uses this strategy in school, but their daily lives. Helping the students realize where his/her strengths or weakness are helps them to realize goals to be achieved.
