Fun Facts
There are three objects you will always find on me: a book to read, a notebook to write in, and a pen to write with. I have an array of interests from gardening to cosmology—all of which I try to combine in my passion, writing fiction. I have one short story published and am working on a novel for my thesis.
About Me
I am a second year graduate student at Loyola Marymount University pursuing my M.A. in English. Over the past year I worked studying medieval texts with a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. This upcoming fall I will be a Teaching Fellow at Loyola Marymount, instructing two freshmen English courses.
As an undergraduate at LMU the work study I selected was Lions for Learning, an off-campus program that placed student-tutors in local elementary school classrooms to assist teachers in class or during afterschool programs. I helped students one-on-one in three fifth-grade classrooms and was eventually promoted to site coordinator whereupon I tutored my fifth-graders as well as mentored the other tutors at my elementary school. With Frog Tutoring, I am able to give students focused, tailored attention in a one-on-one setting to address their particular needs.
When I work with a student I like to hear them talk about a subject and hear them describe their difficulties in their own words. Through questions and active discussion we can work through the problem areas so the student arrives at an understanding through the use of their own mental faculties, rather than rote memorization. I believe review is also essential; ensuring a student still understands what they newly comprehended two or more weeks prior builds retention.
