Fun Facts

When I'm not curled up with a book in Washington Square Park, you might find me painting a portrait or landscape or brainstorming ideas for a movie with my film student friends. I've always tried to combine my creative passion with my academic pursuits in a way that makes both more meaningful. That's why I'm so attracted to the field of psychology, where I can think freely about the human mind and then test the hypotheses I reach.

About Me

Born and raised outside of Boston, Massachusetts, I moved to New York City to attend NYU and learned about developmental psychology. It was in Boston, as a high-school volunteer, at a pre-school, fascinated by intellectual changes in the kids over a few months, that I first considered pursuing a career in psychology. I hope, in the future, to learn more about the process of child intellectual development, as a researcher in the field.

As a college freshman, I started my manhattan">tutoring career at a non-profit after-school program for children from under served communities in New York City, and quite a start it was. For a year I was manhattan">tutor to a classroom of ten high-school students working the whole range of high school subjects, and I quickly learned to be an engaging teacher. Last semester, Last semester I focused on individual manhattan">tutoring, helping a 10 year student with ADD become a better writer by teaching him to organize his thoughts.

My first step as a manhattan">tutor is to find out the student's learning style, be it auditory, visual, or kinetic, and I teach the student individualized study skills best suited to his learning style. I am acutely aware, from my own experience in school, that no one can learn to the best of their abilities if they are bored, so I try my best to engage the student to make the manhattan">tutoring experience fun. As much as organization, study skills, and effective instruction are crucial to the manhattan">tutoring process, I believe that learning to make studying fun is the key with which a manhattan">tutor can unlock a student's full potential.
