While I am not as "extreme" as the people you may have seen on the television show, I am a coupon-er. I enjoy clipping coupons and finding good deals that I use to help support my family and my community. When I am not busy clipping coupons, I spend most of my time with family and friends. When my family is together, we like to watch television together and try to watch a few basketball or baseball games. I also try to spend my time outside by going hiking, camping, and fishing. About Me
I am currently a senior at the University of Texas at Arlington. I am majoring in Mid-Level Education (grades 4-8) while specializing in math and science. I have also obtained my Associate of Arts from Tarrant County College. While I have been in the program I have taken classes in almost all fields of science and have have taken many advanced math classes. I have been fortunate enough to hold a 4.0 GPA at UTA and I hope to graduate in May of 2013. After graduating I hope to be able to educate students full time and find ways to make school both educational and fun.
While I have been in the Education program at UTA, I have been able to work with students both in small groups and one-on-one. I have helped students become organized with their school work along with presenting the material in a slightly different way that could be better understood by the student. I have spent countless hours in the classroom tutoring students in order to prepare them for new material or going over previous lessons. I have also tutored my college peers for tests by reinforcing the key ideas in the class and by helping them work out problems and go over concepts. I usually try to find the holes where I may have misunderstood the material and then work from there to help establish a solid foundation for learning.
I remember public school being boring and being one dimensional for learning. If you did not know how to sit in a desk and listen, then you were not going to learn. I have realized first hand that listening is not always enough, and sometimes the student may need to use hands on activities, read, or even talk in order to learn. So, my approach to tutoring is to provide activities and lessons that are tailored to each student and their needs. I hope to be able to assess the student's needs and help build on their strengths and their weaknesses. I will try to find new and out-of-the-box techniques and activities that will help the students meet their full potential.
