Fun Facts
I am originally from Saratoga Springs in upstate New York and I have lived in San Antonio for almost 6 years. I am an only child and my father is an English professor at Skidmore College, which is the college where I attended college and met my San Antonian fiance. I love to travel and I have been lucky enough to visit Montreal, Belize, France, England, and Puerto Rico.
About Me
I have my MA in English from UT San Antonio and my BA in English from Skidmore College and I absolutely love literature. I am returning to school this fall to pursue my M.Ed. in education/texas/san-antonio">Special Education with a focus on Learning Disabilities and Assessments (Educational Diagnostician Certification) at Texas A&M San Antonio. My ultimate career goal is to attain my PhD in Education and work on LDS curriculum evaluation at the state or federal level.
Experience
I have taught Composition and Developmental English courses and tutored at two college writing centers so I am very comfortable working with students in a one-on-one tutoring environment. I have also worked as a cognitive skills specialist where I worked one-on-one as a learning specialist for adolescents, many with certified learning disabilities such as dyslexia and ADD, on improving reading, spelling, math, and visual and auditory processing skills.
Approach
Since I have worked as a cognitive skills specialist and a Developmental English instructor, I integrate different techniques for comprehending material into my tutoring. Each student has a different learning style so I like to figure out what works best for him/her. I believe that my role is to motivate and coach the student and not do work for him/her because otherwise s/he will not learn or understand the material. When I tutor, I make the student feels comfortable asking any questions.
