Fun Facts

I am an avid reader and lover of fiction novels. As a child, rather than outside playing sports, you would likely catch me nestled between my sheets with a book in hand. That I'd developed such a love for reading made me an easy person to gift shop for! When in doubt, buy me a book!

About Me

I was born in Atlanta, GA and raised primarily in Decatur, GA, where I attended Southwest DeKalb High School. In May 2015, I graduated with a B.A. in English from Morehouse College. Beginning fall of 2015, I will pursue my Master's in English at Georgia State University. Ultimately, I plan to teach English, Composition, and Literary Studies at the secondary level, and, eventually, teach on the collegiate level.

Experience

During the summer of 2012, I taught Composition and Creative Writing to 7th and 8th graders as a member of the Breakthrough Collaborative. Also, I interned for one year at the AUC's Robert W. Woodruff Library, where I developed video tutorials and facilitated workshops on library technology. At Morehouse College, from which I recently graduated, I served as an English atlanta">Tutor for three years. Currently, I atlanta">tutor in east Atlanta and also substitute teach at The Children's School in Midtown, Atlanta.

Approach

Rather than merely litter a paper with red marks, I am invested in teaching a student the grammatical rule he/she struggles with. Also, I aim to help lead the student to the answer as opposed to giving it outright. It is my belief that students, much like teachers, are to be active participants in the learning process. Additionally, I strive to create a nurturing and encouraging safe space, in which students will feel comfortable, especially when receiving correction.

Additionally, I served as an English Tutor at Morehouse College for three academic years and two summers.

Reading Comprehension Tutoring

I currently tutor a ninth-grade student in Reading Comprehension every Saturday. I have been meeting with her for 6 months. In that time span, she has made tremendous improvements in her ability to synthesize information in various texts.
