I transferred to maryland/columbia">columbia">maryland/columbia">Columbia from washington/seattle">Seattle Central Community College, where I was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Society. My education at community college was outstanding, and fully prepared me for the Ivy League. I absolutely believe that one gets out of an experience exactly the measure of what one puts in. Your future is entirely up to you.
I always did well in school, but in training for massage therapy I discovered how wonderful alternative learning environments were. Everyone learns differently, and I think applying and contextualizing theory is incredibly important for retaining information. A student must care about what they are learning. I found for myself that I learned much better when I felt connected to my teacher. When that wasn't possible, manhattan">tutoring and mentorship were a tremendous help. My own experience with manhattan">tutoring has been in the context of childcare, which I have found incredibly rewarding.
