Fun Facts

Since I was nine years old, I have loved playing the trumpet, and it is an activity that I continue to this day. I currently am a member of Brown University's Wind Symphony. Also, I am passionate about almost every sport that exists! Through high school, I played football, basketball, and baseball. My favorite sport, by far, is baseball, and today I play for Brown's club team.

About Me

I am a senior at Brown University concentrating in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Over these past three years, I have maintained a GPA of 4.0, which has earned me an election to the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. After undergraduate college, my plan is to attend medical school and ultimately become a neurosurgeon.

Experience

During two consecutive summer breaks when I was home from college, I worked as a Teaching Assistant for a program that helped students transition from eighth grade to high school. The overall focus of the course was to practice general learning skills, yet it provided me with a wonderful opportunity to boston">tutor students in their writing, critical thinking, and math abilities. To see the students' improvement was so rewarding for me! Frog boston">Tutoring allows me to have this experience again.

Approach

Throughout my academic career, I have found that learning is most productive in a comfortable setting. Therefore, my approach towards boston">tutoring students of all ages is to create a relaxed and down-to-earth environment where--through constant feedback and reinforcement--students become truly excited about learning. My goal is not solely to help students improve in specific subject areas; I will help them develop a studious and diligent mindset that is beneficial to all aspects of life.

In my academic career, I have taken mathematics courses all the way up to Calculus II, and have received A's in each. Algebra was covered exhaustively during my time in high school. Recently, I have employed advanced algebra for courses such as Physics I and II (and earned an A in each of these).

Throughout my academic career, taking standardized tests has forced me to constantly improve with my reading comprehension skills. I took two AP English courses in high school, and received A's in each. Through SAT prep--and now, MCAT prep--I am certain I can help a student to delve into a passage and be able to work through the toughest of questions.

SAT Verbal/Writing Tutoring

All of my years of taking English courses (and receiving A's in each, including my Academic Essay course at Brown) have equipped me with a robust vocabulary and ability to write. I received above a 700 on the writing portion of my SAT, and earned a 5 on my English Literature AP exam.

Science Tutoring

Besides having taken a multitude of honors/AP science courses in high school, my college career has been centered around them. From biology to neuroscience, chemistry to physics, I have success in each. My grade has always been an A.

Study Skills Tutoring

All of these years as a student--especially these recent ones in college at Brown University--have forced me to develop good study skills. Furthermore, I now have a well-developed perspective for the level of performance students need to be at in order to achieve their academic goals. I am confident that I can impart some of my own successful study skills onto high school students in a way that will make the process enjoyable for them.
