Once, when I was in middle school, one night I had a dream that a teacher was flying above my bed. The teacher was a much respected tenant in the building. He was teaching history and geography in HS. When I told my mother about the dream, she said: “Tell him about the dream and ask why you saw him flying as bird?” I did ask him expecting an open explanation. He smiled, curiously looked at me and said: “Markus, I think someday your dream may come true for you." Now it is a true for 10+ years.

About Me

I am an Adjunct Lecturer in mathematics at Touro College (TC) in NY, since 2004. I earned my MS in Physics & Teaching Physics at Odessa State University, Ukraine, July 1, 1976. There, upon graduation, I taught both math and physics until my family immigrated to USA, NY, 1990. Here, I earned Certificate in ACAD, Manhattan Technical Institute,1991, and then Computer Programming Diploma, Advanced Software Analysis, Inc., 1992. After graduations I worked as a senior IT specialist for 10+ years.

Experience

As a faculty at TC College Department of Mathematics 2003 - present, I design and implement curriculum plans for math subjects: Development and College math, Elementary Statistics, Pre-calculus and Calculus I. I tutor 8+ hours per week students having difficulties in making their grades, assist the tutoring staff in their individual tutoring sessions. Also, I provide to students on-line support. Maintain excellent student retention; consistently receive positive feedback on student evaluations.

Approach

Interacting with diverse populations of students (20 to 25) having variety of academic levels I use professional judgment based on multiple types of evidence to be creative in teaching students. I create highly effective learning environment by engaging students ask good questions, that valued over answers. Old thinking is revisited. Old errors are reflected on. Divergent concepts are contrasted promoting constant opportunity for practice. Assessment is persistent, balanced and transparent.
