About Me
As a graduate student in the field of Literature, I have learned how difficult it is to grow academically without guidance. I entered Graduate school in order to put my studies into practice, to learn how best to develop my analytical skill and inform my mind, and to be prepared and able to share my love of literature. I have been greatly formed by the mentoring and challenged that come with student life, the discussing of ideas with professors and fellow students, and the impressing of the material into my life with thought, teaching, and discussion. I would like to share a similar experience with my students.I am a perpetual student: I love to read and watch and study the world! I want to be in education with the hopes of spreading this joy!
When I graduate, I am planning to become a teacher. My experience is limited to teaching Sunday School, but I enjoyed being able to read and discuss and grow with my students. I did tutor at the writing lab in my undergraduate career, and loved discussing literature and writing with fellow students.
I want to relate to each student and reach them where ever they are in terms of education, experience and interest. I want to give my students the tools with which they can seek after their own answers. I believe that structure is necessary in a learning environment, and the student should have an understanding of what is expected from them. I believe that the purpose of education is to teach a person how to think. Students should not parrot back the ideas of the teacher, but should learn to comprehend, analyze and judge for themselves. English is one the first tools in learning how to think, as it contains the tools both for fully understanding and the basics of logics. As a teacher, I want my students to learn not just the facts and material with which we work, but the ways in which they can apply this knowledge to their lives. Education is not a thing that is left at school, but affects the core of the person.
