Fun Facts
I've always been passionate about music. I began taking piano lessons in the second grade, began to dabble in guitar during the sixth grade, and dedicated the seven years of my life between the sixth grade and my senior year to playing the flute in band. I'm the youngest of three and although my older siblings grew up in a large city, I was lucky enough to grow up on a farm outside of any city limits. I lived in that little farm house right up until I moved to college, and although I love living
About Me
I'm a senior Computational Chemistry/Pre-Med major at the University of Texas. I know that I want to go to medical school when I finish my undergraduate studies, but I'm not entirely sure what my future holds beyond that. I either want to practice medicine in underdeveloped areas (I would love to go to Africa!) or become a forensic pathologist.
For the past two summers, I've had the opportunity to participate in UT's College Readiness Program, which was developed to help incoming students to the College of Natural Sciences. My job with them is to be both a austin">tutor and a mentor. I help them through math and chemistry placement tests by reviewing topics that they may not have seen for several years and, in some cases, teach them topics that they haven't ever seen. I also help them through the transition into college life by offering support and being there to answer any questions that they have about life at UT. It's such a rewarding experience to see them start off the fall semester with confidence and excitement, rather than uncertainty and anxiety!
I have been so lucky in my education. I have had amazing teachers with a passion for their subject, so that it was impossible to not want to learn their subject. However, I know that not everyone has had this advantage and I want to be able to pass along what I've learned. As a austin">tutor, I want my students to feel so confident in their understanding of the content that they could teach it to someone else. For this reason, I don't give answers to problems unless absolutely necessary. Instead, I offer tips and help guide them through example problems until they are able to work them alone, and can even teach me how to work them.
