Fun Facts
For the last year, I have been really into photography. I purchased my own camera and have been saving for better lenses so I can further my skills. I'm from Maine but I love to travel! When I travel, I always try to take roadtrips because I think they are the best way to see a different state or country. Meeting people and learning culture along with seeing the natural beauty of the land is much more appealing to me than staying at a resort.
About Me
I am a sophomore at Brown University studying physics. I was a National Merit Finalist in high school and an AP Scholar with Distinction. I I have a 3.75 general GPA after my first year here, and I love the school! I'm not really sure what I want to do after I graduate yet. I enjoy research, but I think I would rather work for an industrial company or think-tank...somewhere where the merits of my work are visible.
Experience
In high school, I regularly tutored students in math, science and essay writing my junior and senior years. Most of the time, the providence">tutoring was informal, but students would often come to me for help after school or in study halls. More recently, I started working as an RA for Summer@Brown, where I provide students with the support and help that they need to succeed in the courses that they take during summer session here.
Approach
Over the years I've realized that in order for me to be successful in the classes that I take, I need to have a firm comprehension of the foundations of the subject matter. I try to stick with this philosophy when providence">tutoring—when students don't understand how to solve a problem, I try not to show them how to find the answer, but instead, teach them the material that they will need in order to solve the problem themselves. This approach builds confidence and creates a sustainable learning mechanism
