Fun Facts
My favorite pastime is rock climbing. I love the physical and mental challenges of the sport and am always trying to push my limits! Aside from that, I love to read. My favorite author is James Joyce, but I also enjoy fantasy authors like Robert Jordan, Patrick Rothfuss, Steven Erikson, and George RR Martin.
About Me
I am a Masters student in English Education at University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. When I graduate in spring 2016, I will be certified to teach grades 6-12, and right now my goal is to teach high school English. I bring a unique background to teaching, as I was an attorney before coming to the education field. The skills and knowledge required to practice law transfer well to the interpretation and analysis of literary as well as non-literary texts, and also to education administration.
Experience
I served as an Americorps State volunteer in a middle school from September 2007- September 2008. In that role, I tutored students during the day and directed after-school activities as well. During the summer, I co-directed a recreation program for summer-school students. More recently (October 2012-present), I have worked as a private milwaukee">tutor in a variety of subject areas serving middle and high school students in the Milwaukee and Waukesha areas.
Approach
My approach is to start with the student, assessing his or her needs thoroughly and providing targeted instruction to effect rapid improvement! Also, I believe my relationship with the student is important, so I make sure to cultivate this in session by listening attentively to concerns and thoughts of the student, whether related to the subject area or not.

I've taken advanced mathematics courses in high school, including Advanced Algebra, Geometry, and AP Calculus BC. Further, I am experienced in tutoring the math section of the ACT, which includes questions pertaining to plane and coordinate geometry, algebra, and pre-algebra.

I earned my B.A. in English with Honors from U. Wisconsin, Madison in 2007. Further, I have a Juris Doctor from Wisconsin Law School. The training I received in earning both of these degrees is exceptional for providing students with the critical reading and writing skills they need to succeed in an English class!
