Fun Facts

I attend as many sporting events as I can. Baseball is my favorite (both Cubs and White Sox). However, I enjoy basketball, football and hockey as well. Sports, music and history are my passions.

About Me

I earned my B.A. from the University of Iowa and subsequently spent many years in sales. History remained a hobby for me throughout this time. As I gained perspective, history began to seem more coherent and purposeful, as opposed to descriptive and fragmented. Therefore, I switched careers and became certified to teach secondary (grades 6-12) social studies. I wrote and copyrighted a book called "The Responsible Use of Freedom: Economics, Sports and Society" with the United States Library of Congress. There are a couple of local graduate schools where I can publish my book in some form, while pursuing a PhD in history.

I taught 7th grade social studies in the Chicago inner city for my clinical teaching experience. I taught AP European and United States history within the International Baccalaureate program to Chicago inner city sophomores and juniors for 16 weeks as a student teacher. I tutored and mentored at-risk youth with the lawrence">Lawrence Hall organization in Chicago. I have tutored undergraduates in writing and humanities courses.

A fundamental aspect of my approach is helping a student with his or her sense of industry and identity as someone who can achieve to a significant level. This is done by addressing the course work as it relates to the student and our world in a practical and personal way. My effort as a chicago">tutor builds the student's understanding of themself as a learner. With responsibility comes reward with effort and success. Virtually all students can become intrinsically motivated.
