Fun Facts
One thing about me that is painfully obvious is that I love to travel, especially in Latin America. I have been so far to Panama and Mexico, and hope to add Costa Rica and Peru this year. One of my other passions is dancing. I have been dancing different styles since I can remember and am currently part of a local non-profit company.
About Me
I am a junior at the University of Arizona studying Anthropology with a Human Biology Emphasis and Molecular and Cellular Biology. I am also involved in an international non-profit that works with youth leadership in the US and Latin America called Amigos de las Americas. After I graduate I hope to attend University of California at Berkley to study Medical Anthropology.
Through my experience with the organization Amigos de las Americas I have had the opportunity to mentor high school students in the areas of leadership, team building, cultural understanding, and many more. While this is not a traditional tucson">tutor experience I believe the skills gained are similar. I have learned responsibility, lesson planning, and communication skills among others. I have also worked as a resident teacher in a 5th grade classroom teaching the students poetry. Being a tucson">tutor with Frog tucson">Tutors will give me the opportunity to expand, grow, and learn in this area and have new experiences to learn from and improve on.
I believe that everyone has the capacity to learn anything, but everyone learns differently. For example, I know I pick up subjects such as chemistry and biology really quickly, however history takes more work and a different type of studying. Not everyone learns well in a traditional classroom setting, and being able to take the subjects out of that setting and create a more learning-friendly atmosphere is what I hope to bring to students as a tucson">tutor. Throughout high school I struggled with finding study habits that fit my schedule and personality as well as keeping my classwork and notes organized, and now have found a few systems that work well for me and hope to pass those skills on.
Experience
I have been working with an organization called Amigos de las Americas for five years now in a youth mentor capacity. I have had the opportunity to mentor and tucson">tutor high school students in areas such as cultural understanding, teamwork, leadership, and more. While this is not traditional tucson">tutoring experience, it offers the same responsibilities and skills, and I look forward to further expanding my horizons in tucson">tutoring with Frog tucson">Tutoring. I have also worked as a resident teacher in 5th grade.
Approach
Since elementary school I have struggled to find a study strategy that works well for my personality and schedule, and throughout college I have come up with a few techniques that work well for me, and I would love to help other students find the way that works best for them as I believe that not everyone learns the same way. I also believe that the most powerful learning comes from finding the answers yourself. I am passionate about helping students in that journey to understanding and success
