Fun Facts

I'm a music lover, an animal lover, and a bit of a science fiction geek, as anyone who talks to me for more than five minutes will discover! I've sung and played instruments for most of my life, including flute and guitar. While I only have one pet of my own, I've recently signed up with the Austin Humane Society to foster animals. Although they might not be considered "Literature," I still have a soft spot in my heart for writers like J.R.R. Tolkien and Stephen King.

About Me

I'm a PhD candidate in English at the University of Texas at Austin, and am currently finishing up my dissertation. When I defend my project, I plan to seek out an academic position as a professor of English. Eventually, I'd like to publish my project as a book.

As a graduate student at the University of Texas, I've had multiple opportunities to work with undergraduates. I've taught classes in either college composition or literature for the past five years, and I've had three years of experience as a austin">tutor with the Undergraduate Writing Center. The UWC assists students from across the university with a variety of writing projects, and provides help with any stage in the writing process, including research, brainstorming, outlining, drafting, and revising. I've also recently begun austin">tutoring with UT Athletics, and will be assisting student athletes with writing and literature coursework.

As a result of my experiences as a teacher and I austin">tutor, I have adopted a austin">tutoring style that is best described as "non-directive." This means that I avoid telling students answers or what to write. Instead, I work with them by asking questions, providing models, and teaching useful strategies that they can then apply on their own. My goal is to give students the skills that will help them to feel confident about their abilities and excited about learning. I believe that through patience, persistence, and attentiveness, all students can reach their full potential.
