Fun Facts

I played and instructed tennis in high school but basketball and baseball are now my favorite sports to play. I was a Virginia All-State Jazz trombone player. I love listening to any music and watching any movies that were made before the 80s. Above all, I'm super excited to become a math-middle-school/ohio/columbus">middle school math and science teacher in two years!

About Me

I'm a fifth year undergrad attending the The Ohio State University, majoring in theoretical mathematics and economics. Next fall I plan going to grad school at OSU to receive my MeD for math-middle-school/ohio/columbus">middle school math education (grades 7-12). My underlying goal in life is just to get kids more interested in/curious about math and science.

Experience

I'm currently employed at the Columbus columbus">Tutoring Center as an SAT/ACT instructor and columbus">tutor for K-12. I attend a program within OSU's "Pay-it-Forward" community service organization called "Access88", and each week we go to public libraries around Columbus and columbus">tutor kids ages 6-18 who are in after-school programs. I was a baseball umpire for six years, I have two little sisters, I give tennis lessons to kids, and I'm a camp counselor for OSU's "Camp Recky" each summer.

Approach

I'm very good at explaining complex ideas to children in a language they can understand. When I become a public middle school teacher in Columbus, I will model my entire teach style around this quote:
“I think the big mistake in schools is trying to teach children anything, and by using fear as the basic motivation. Fear of getting failing grades, fear of not staying with your class, etc. Interest can produce learning on a scale compared to fear as a nuclear explosion to a firecracker.”
