About Me
Hi! My name is Wylie and I'm a junior at maryland/columbia">columbia">maryland/columbia">columbia-university">maryland/columbia">columbia">maryland/columbia">Columbia University, studying mathematics and statistics. Before that, I was a student at the Borough of Manhattan Community College. Every semester that I have been in college, I have been on the Dean's List. I'm not quite sure what I would like to be doing in a few years time, but graduate school, teaching or working in the financial field appear to viable options for my future.
I have been a manhattan">tutor for the past year, working with a group of inner-city, low-income high school students, specializing in the areas of math, economics, and physics. It has been a rewarding, and at times challenging, experience, but one that I have truly enjoyed. Working at Frog manhattan">Tutoring gives me the opportunity to continue working with students as I build up my teaching abilities.
Growing up, I was always good at math, but never embraced it - or school for that matter - as readily as I should have. Math, I have realized, can be difficult as it has a tendency to be very dry and formulaic, so I try to make it as conceptual and theoretical as possible. Grasping concepts rather than just plugging in equations is, to me, the best way to learn math, so that a student can conquer any and every challenge thrown his or her way.
