Fun Facts

My friends call me Chrssy (yes, I spell my name without any vowels, but its pronounced like "Chrissy") and you can definitely do the same! I have lived all over the United State as well as living in Austria until I was 7, but Colorado is DEFINITELY my favorite place that I've ever lived. I grew up speaking German and also started Learning Sign Language when I was about 11. I love spending time with my friends and playing games! Some of my favorites are Phase10, Dominoes and Mario Kart.

About Me

I went to the University of Northern Colorado for a Bachelors in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology as well as Writing. I then went to Metropolitan State University for graduate school for education/colorado/denver">Special Education. I'm a education/colorado/denver">special education teacher and LOVE teaching and spending my day seeing students learn and discover new things! My favorite subjects are Science and English, but I've always liked all the subjects in school and really enjoy learning. While I love teaching and giving students knowledge and skills that they can use and be successful with, I really enjoy and look forward to learning from them as well!

Experience

I have a lot of experience working one-on-one and in small groups with students in school settings with reading interventions (fluency, comprehension, phonics, etc), homework help, Science, Math, English, Writing and basic functional life skills. I have tutored a few students in high school Biology and English. My teaching experience ranges from Kindergarten to 12th grade and also ranges from students who have severe disabilities to students who are in a gen. education setting & need support.

Approach

I love to use visual and hands on activities as often as possible to help a student understand the information. If possible, I have also found it effective to use "games" as a way to get the student involved in learning (especially for students who are at the elementary and younger middle school level). I know that respect is not freely given and needs to be earned for both parties- and love building positive relationships with the student as part of the learning process.
