Fun Facts

Recently, I have been spending my free time learning how to draw and to sketch, something that I find relaxes me after a strenuous day at the lab ;). My brother is 2 years younger than me and is my best friend! I enjoy traveling when I have the time, and have been to over 15 countries. I hope to use my masters degree to help patients with schizophrenia increase their social support/ interactions.

About Me

Recently I was accepted to the Mind, Brain, & Behavior Program at San Francisco State University. Here, I will learn to use critical thinking, problem solving, and statistics to solve motivational problems in patients with schizophrenia and in addition, how our home environment affects the ways in which we spend our free time and discretionary income. After my two year training, I hope to continue to conduct my research at a Ph.D program!

During my undergraduate career, I had the opportunity to tutor several different types of Psychology courses. Prior to these experiences, I informally tutored math throughout my high school career. I enjoy the learning process and all that it has to offer.

I am galvanized by the opportunity to use my experience of motivating patients with schizophrenia to more goal directed behaviors and applying that knowledge to motivate students to learn new material. My previous experience assisting and proctoring college courses and working with clinical populations have prepared me for tutoring students. My approach is to use various tactics including open discussion or debate, application to real life examples, videos, interactive activities, and memorization techniques. I encourage open discussions of difficult topics and exploration of a subject beyond what is required by the student’s teacher or instructor. My goal is not just to re-lecture the material, but also to lead students to learn through the application of concepts and theories.
