Fun Facts

I am originally from Oregon and moved to Arizona in 2010.. I love the outdoors, and I am passionate about wildlife. My personal research is in Human-Wildlife co-existence. I research how people can share landscapes with wild animals, and I work to ensure that as human population grows, animals still have a way to move from place to place through wildlife corridors and crossings. My daughter and I volunteer in kitten and cat rescue.

About Me

I hold an MA and PhD in Environmental Social Science, and a BS in Human Communication with a minor in Philosophy. I am a trained ESL/EFL instructor, and a trained mediator and facilitator. I teach Intercultural Communication and Conflict at the university level, and am skilled in communication, philosophy, environmental studies, conflict transformation, sociology, narrative theory and environmental history.

For upper levels of teaching, I specialize in qualitative research, with experience with survey research and design, interviewing, conflict mapping, and data analysis (including narrative and emotion analysis).

For K-12 teaching, I specialize in social studies, history, English, and environmental science.

Experience

I have experience teaching English to youths and adults with varying degrees of English proficiency, and a variety of cultural backgrounds. My teaching and phoenix">tutoring strengths are in the social sciences, and English language arts. I have college level teaching experience in Sociocultural Anthropology and Communication. I am currently adjunct faculty in Communication at Southern Oregon University.

Approach

In all courses I have teach, I work to develop a command of verbal and written communication skills in my students. I take a holistic approach to teaching, recognizing students as complex individuals dealing with a myriad of life influences and obligations including social, family, professional, and academic. Thus I help students to identify their strengths and skill sets used in all parts of their lives, and apply them to their education.
