Fun Facts

I grew up in Maine, even though I live in New York City now. I love outdoor activities, such as going to the beach. I will try anything once, and like staying active. I love dancing, skiing, and dessert!

About Me

I am a Skidmore College graduate with a major in education. I also minored in English and dance. Currently, I am a brooklyn-college">Brooklyn College graduate student in the School Counseling program. I teach 4th grade education/new-york/brooklyn">special education in a New York City public school, and have been doing that for the last four years. I came to teach in New York through Teach for America.

At Skidmore College I worked with pre-school age children as a weekly brooklyn">tutor in their homes, getting them ready for school activities with a focus on literacy. As a teacher, I have worked in many after school programs with small groups of students focusing on math and reading. I am lucky to be able to work one on one and in small groups with my students on a daily basis. This has fueled my desire to brooklyn">tutor one on one, because that is where the most growth occurs with a student.

As a teacher, I know how difficult it can be for students to stay on top of the curriculum. There is so much to cover and the needs of all students are great. Working with students who have disabilities has increased my knowledge on finding many ways for students to take in information. As a brooklyn">tutor I think that meeting the child where they are, setting goals and expectations, and getting them to where they need to be are the keys to success. Building a partnership between home and school can only increase the student's ability to reach their potential. I hope to play a part in helping the student reach this potential and meet the goals we set together.
