I love to BBQ and spend time with my family and friends. You will often find me planning a trip to my favorite places and beyond. I dream of traveling around the world and seeing new and exciting places. I love football and love spending time watching my favorite TV shows (although I would miss everything if the DVR was not invented). .
About Me
I LOVE teaching. I teach 8th grade science & social studies. Within my curriculums I teach grammar, writing, reading comprehension, & math. I make sure that my students make connections between their learning & incorporate all strategies to communicate & calculate properly. I have a bachelors in Education with a focus in science and SS. have a Masters in Educational Administration. I will move into administration within the next few years but for now I am enjoying the classroom.
Experience
I have been a public school teacher for 8 years. During this time I have led after school tutoring sessions and helped move several students forward. I have worked with individual students one-on-one and helped them get a full year or farther in their reading and writing skills. I have great interaction skills between my students I tutor. I have experience with elementary and middle school aged students.
Approach
I find that once students get frustrated and turn on the mindset that they are no good at something it is difficult to break down that wall. I turn my students from saying "I cant" to "I can", from "I hate math or reading/writing" into "I am good at math or reading/writing?. I do this by breaking down the learning gaps. Students lightbulbs shut off when a concept is skipped over or missed altogether. As your child's tutor I will find the gaps and begin from there.

I love coming up with questions and problems and working through the scientific method to explore the natural world.
Study Skills Tutoring
It is a sad truth but our students do not learn study skills in school until its too late. Study skills should not be a response to intervention but a norm. I will teach your child how to study and include this time in their daily schedule. Study shows that students that reinforce their curriculum and skills at home are more likely to consume the information and make connections between personal background knowledge.
Writing Tutoring
I have taught elementary and middle school reading and writing to students in the classroom and private setting. I teach students that writing is a communication. I teach students to write academically and love using the RACES strategy.
Math Tutoring
I have taught elementary math and understand the curriculum very well. I am very good at finding the skill gaps and working forward from that point. I know different strategies and skills for individual student understanding and will work with your child to fill in the gaps and move ahead.
