Fun Facts
After being around me a short while, people learn that I am very passionate about singing. I may pop out a tune at any moment and I'm always game for Karoke. In addition, I'm intrigued by languages and different cultures. Having traveled to seven different countries has provided me with wonderful experiences allowing me to learn and appreciate diversity. I often read to my students using a British accent and love experimenting with other language accents.
About Me
I earned my undergraduate degree in Elementary Ed. at Regents University, in Augusta, GA. In 2012, I continued my education with a Master's degree in English as a Second Language. I hold a NC teaching certificate in Elementary Ed. PreK-6th and ESL K- 12. Presently, I am a 3rd grade teacher at a private school in SC. I am very relational and intentional about getting to know my students. My focus is to find out what strategy works for my students that will ensures them to reach their goals.
Experience
As an educator of 18 years , I have had multitude of diverse experiences with both public and private school settings. I've spent many hours after school tutoring a range of ages from K-12 to adults who were from various cultures and local. I practiced conversational English and supported a range of academic subjects for both elementary and high school aged Chinese and Hispanic students. Traveling to different countries has given me numerous opportunities of cultural immersion and appreciation.
Approach
As a young mother, I recognized that my children have different learning abilities and adjusted my educational support as needed. I provided a positive interactive environment enabling them to see their own success building their confidence towards independence. As a tutor, these characteristics are exemplified. I work to build a positive relationship with the student through observation and conversation, to identify academic motivation to guide them through strengths and weaknesses.

Working with students who have different learning abilities affords me the opportunity to support any discipline. I taught middle school science and worked with a diverse student body and differentiated the skills to support them.

Spanish Tutoring

I earned my MA in ESL/ESOL and earned a 4.0. In addition, I have experience teaching the ESL to a diverse population of students.
STAAR Reading Tutoring
STAAR Reading is the state testing for Texas. VA has SOL, NC has EOG, and SC has PASS; these all pertain to the gateway grades that students must pass to go on in their education. I've taught in all of the above states and have an understanding of what Reading skills are needed to pass these tests.
TOEFL Tutoring
Having taught ESL high school students to prepare for the TOEFL, I am prepared to support students to be ready for this test. Also, I have a MA in ESOL.
