Fun Facts
I have an adorable English bulldog named Yoda - he is short, fat, and wrinkly, but yoda also means 'knowledge' or 'to know' in classical Hebrew. I always give people three guesses as to where I grew up, but no one ever gets it right! (Can you?) I love taking barre classes and red velvet cupcakes.
About Me
I love facilitating learning among students, and had over 200 different personalities and learning styles among my students at Binghamton University, where I am currently in the history PhD program. I am done with courses and decided not to teach or T.A. this year, but I miss helping students. My undergraduate degree is from Centenary College of Louisiana in Religious Studies and Women and Gender, and my master's degree is from Harvard. Ultimately, I would love to find a job in higher education.
Experience
I taught students in groups of 20 - 25 during my teaching assistantships, and regularly held office hours for those who wanted one-on-one tutoring and help with writing assignments. Prior to this, I served as an academic mentor through Boston University's College Behind Bars program, and trained under both a learning specialist and writing coach at Harvard.
Approach
My process of "active editing" helps students learn why sentences, paragraphs, or ideas should be changed and strengthened - I teach the core skills needed to flourish on future projects rather than simply instructing. As one of my past students noted, I act like a guide and put the power (and confidence) back in the students' hands. Plus, my enthusiasm is infectious.

Reading Comprehension Tutoring
During my two years as a teaching assistant, I taught roughly 200 students the skills the needed for comprehension and mastery of material, its application to both the course and broader subject areas, and the art of analytical thinking. I prepared my students for quizzes, midterms, research papers, and final exams, and they consistently scored higher than their classmates in other discussion sections.
Religion Tutoring
My undergraduate training at a private liberal arts school (where I graduated Magna Cum Laude) and my master's training at Harvard prepared me to teach religion and religious studies at all levels. I have been asked to sit on panels to give advice to incoming students and to present my own work. I have also guest lectured in Binghamton's Judaic Studies department.

Writing Tutoring
After training under a learning specialist and writing coach while at Harvard, teaching students to write different types of essays and research papers is one of my strongest skills. I act as a guide, preparing them to feel confident when faced with later assignments because of the building blocks I teach. My process of active editing helps students understand why parts of their essays should be changed, rather than simply fixing mistakes without explanation.
