Experienced Early Education Tutor

Fun Facts

I am very involved on campus life at Adelphi University. I am a part of Delta Gamma, which is a sorority that focuses on raising money for the blind. Throughout my years in the sorority, I have spent a great deal of my time volunteering and involved in community service. My sorority greatly emphasizes education and as a whole we have had the highest grade point average on campus for the past ten years. For the purpose of maintaining our high grade point average I have tutored our new members.

About Me

I am a fourth year Psychology Major in the Early Education Program at Adelphi University. I have been on the Dean's list with the Dean's Academic Scholarship for my four years at Adelphi University. When I graduate next year, I hope to achieve my ultimate goal of becoming an Elementary School Teacher. I truly enjoy working with children and someday dream of teaching students ranging from kindergarten to sixth grade.

Experience

Since I have known that I wanted to be a teacher since my early years of high school, I have plenty of experience working with children. Currently I am a nursery attendant at Big Al's Family Fitness in Amityville. My responsibilities involve assisting children in fun and educational activities. At my high school I interned in a preschool with my early childhood development teacher and I worked at McKenna Elementary School's Summer Stars Program, which assisted students enrolled in summer school.

Approach

As a college student on the journey to becoming an early education teacher, my approach is to gain as much experience working with children as possible. I would love to share my knowledge on educational practices as well as my knowledge of early education curriculum with the children of this program.

English Tutoring

As a college student studying to be an Early Elementary School Teacher, I have observed and student taught lessons in literacy skills, mathematics, social studies, and science. Each of these required classes have prepared me for preparing lessons plans to help students excel. I have also taught lessons to a second grade class involving recycling for two years in a row during high school. In addition, I assisted students in third and fifth grade with mathematics and reading in a summer school program at McKenna Elementary School. I even taught preschoolers for my early childhood development class in high school. I taught them a lesson regarding Mother's Day and assisted with creative activities every day for an entire semester.

Homework Coach Tutoring

Two years ago I worked at Drexel Avenue Elementary School in Westbury as an after school tutor. Students whose parents worked were sent to the library after school hours to complete homework. One of my peers and I went to the school every Tuesday and Thursday to assist these children with their homework.

Religion Tutoring

I was raised Catholic by both of my parents. I became involved with my parish on my own when I assisted in the St. Rose of Lima Respite Program, which took place on the third Friday of every month. The program was for children with Autism and for the parents of these children. The aids, like myself, would play with the children while the parents spoke to one another.

Science Tutoring

For my education degree, I took a science methods class. This class specialized in elementary school science skills. I was given the opportunity to teach a lesson to elementary school children on Density on two different occasions.

Social Studies Tutoring

I was enrolled in a social studies methods class for my education degree.

Spanish Tutoring

I began learning Spanish in seventh grade. Since seventh grade, I went on to join Advanced Spanish Placement classes in high school. When applying to college, I scored a 5 out of 5 on Adelphi's entrance exam for Spanish. I finished my Spanish classes with a level 5 course my first semester at Adelphi University.

Study Skills Tutoring

My prior experience with children and well as my grades throughout my academic career have prepared me to assist students with their study habits.

Writing Tutoring

I have always been told that I was a great writer throughout my high school and college career. I have written a number of papers on the origins of psychology and education. I would love to aid children in their own writing.
