Fun Facts

As the oldest of three girls, I am the first in my family to finish college. I love to cook and experiment with different baking techniques (it's the scientist in me!) Biology and English were always my two favorite subjects in school and if I hadn't pursued Biology, I would have done an English related major. I'm an avid reader and have recently found a love of science fiction.

About Me

My name is April and I'm twenty-two years old. I recently graduated cum laude in Microbiology at San Francisco State University on an academic scholarship. I am from the central coast but have lived in San Francisco since I moved out here in 2008. The study of Biology has fascinated me since childhood and continues to do so. I intend to pursue a graduate degree in Immunology or Clinical Lab Science next fall. As of now I am doing volunteer work in labs in the Bay Area to gain research experience before going back to school.

I've tutored in both Elementary school and College. For a year I volunteered at a program called Reading Partners where I helped elementary school aged children improve their reading-comprehension/california/san-francisco">reading comprehension and writing abilities. In college I often held study groups and tutoring sessions with my piers in all levels of Biology, basic Chemistry, and Essay writing. My two younger sisters are in High School and I've tutored them in subjects such as English, Chemistry, and Biology.

My approach to tutoring is to make it fun, interesting, and tailored to the individual student. I know that there are many ways to learn, and that the best way is different for each person. For example, as a visual learner, I've learned to use graphics and different colors to organize information to study from. I also enjoy finding fun facts about the material that a student can relate to, since they are more likely to retain information that way.
