Fun Facts
One of my favorite things to do is watch Michigan State sports. As a Michigan State alumni, I love everything having to do with MSU, especially basketball. In my free time I love to read, swim, ski, and play with my dog. I have three brothers and two sisters as well as a niece and a nephew, all of whom are spread out between Michigan and Kentucky.
About Me
I grew up in Louisville Kentucky but moved to Michigan to attend Michigan State University. Later, I moved to the Detroit area and began graduate school at wayne-state-university">Wayne State University. I hope to graduate with my maters degree in the winter of 2013. When I graduate, I will be a certified school counselor. I eventually hope to work in either a middle school or a high school in Detroit. I love working with students and helping them achieve their goals.
For the past two years I have worked as a detroit">tutor and a mentor in middle schools. Last year I worked with City Year Detroit at a middle school in the north end of Detroit. I helped run after-school programs, literacy events, as well as many detroit">tutoring sessions. This year I work with Downriver CARES at a middle school in River Rouge. I also currently work with adults who are working towards taking their GED test.
For me, I think it is very important to get to know the students before detroit">tutoring them. Each student learns and works differently and it is important to understand each student's unique style. I like to have open, and honest communication with the students I work with so that they can feel comfortable telling me when I'm doing something that isn't working. I like to try different approaches and styles so that I can help to ensure that the student is really understanding the information given to them.
