Fun Facts
I have never ever been on a plane and I have never ever been outside of the state of California... that is, until this summer! This summer, I finally boarded a plane for my very first time, and for my second time, and for my third... and for my sixth time. Yea, needless to say, I'm not exactly a big fan of planes at the moment. The 12-hour-long flight to Hong Kong, coupled with flight delays, has, among other things, instilled into me that, yes, patience is indeed a virtue. But that's enough abo
About Me
I am a sophomore attending U.C. Berkeley with my major undeclared. I originally applied to Berkeley as an intended business major, but I am currently up in the air as to what I want to do in college and as a professional. To be honest, no class has yet to strike me as something that I am really interested in or something that I really want to do for 20+ years of my life after I graduate. However, there is one thing that I have always been fascinated by, and that is education.
Starting in high school, I began delving into the field of education. As a member of the California Scholarship Federation, I had the opportunity to engage in 1-on-1 tutoring with my peers in various subjects, ranging from U.S. history to physics. My experiences here taught me that I really got a sense of gratification helping others succeed academically, and being able to be just a small factor in that student's accomplishments. I decided to join my high school's Mathletes, and from there, I joined a program called Everyday Magic, a weekly tutoring program at the nearby Lakeshore Elementary School. In college, I have continued my work with students, housing and mentoring students as part of the biannual Shadownite, a weekend-long overnight stay program in which high school students come to explore the Berkeley campus and enjoy a day of fun in San Francisco. In addition, I also spent the duration of my freshman year as a member of a mentorship called Let's Rise! Every Friday, we would drive over to Richmond and engage students at Helms Middle School in various activities designed to foster awareness of Asian Pacific Islander issues, and to help encourage these students to pursue higher education.
