Fun Facts
First and foremost, I am a "Gilmore Girls" addict, but unlike Rory and Lorelai Gilmore, I love to cook and bake! When I'm not watching my complete series "Gilmore Girls" collection or trying a new recipe, I also enjoy reading good books, trying to beat my computer at chess without hitting the "undo" button, and hitting the gym (can you say Zumba!?). My greatest passion outside of academics, however, lies in singing and making beautiful music.
About Me
My name is Laurie Ann Taylor, and I am currently a sophomore at Emory University, the best college in the world (obviously)! Though I have yet to declare to my major officially, I plan to pursue a double major in religion and economics with an unofficial minor in Italian studies. I call the lovely town of Carrollton, Georgia my home, but my family roots lie in the deep south of Georgia where the best peaches grow, and homemade peach ice cream, fried chicken, and corn bread are the stuff of life. I am a good ol' southern girl and proud of it!
I served as the atlanta">tutoring chair of my high school's Beta Club, through which I organized school-wide atlanta">tutoring blitzes, which drew hundreds of students and atlanta">tutors together beyond their regular school hours. I helped in preparing students for graduation tests, end of course tests, and regular midterms and finals. My senior year, I also worked with our guidance staff in the first year of having an after school program, where I tutored students in a variety of subject areas.
I think discourse is the most important aspect of atlanta">tutoring! Learning should never involve one-way instruction; it's all about encouraging two-way communication and building a trusting relationship. I care about the students I atlanta">tutor, and though I am primarily a teacher, I can also be a mentor and friend, an opportunity which is unique to peer atlanta">tutors.
