Fun Facts

I am very interested in all areas of math and science. My free time is mainly spent playing video games, as well as doing various outdoor activities such as running swimming and hiking. I have been learning to swing dance for about a year now; it is something I really enjoy. I grew up in a small town in northern California and have been living in San Jose for only a year.

About Me

I am in my second year of the master's program in materials engineering at San Jose State University. My undergraduate degree is in mathematics with a minor in physics from UC Santa Cruz. After getting my MS degree I would like to continue school to attain a PhD in materials engineering. After finishing school completely I hope to work in the medical device field developing safer and more effective materials for medical implants.

I have been tutoring since I was a junior in high school. I have helped students attain their academic goals in a range of subjects, usually math or science related. I continued tutoring in college and began to tutor college level courses. I have enjoyed seeing many students build confidence and some finding interest in the field being worked on. I have taught students of a wide range of goals, whether it is to get an A in a class or just to pass.

I believe that every student has a different and unique learning method that works best for him or her. I have seen friends have trouble with one teacher only to discover with another teaching method that they are great at the subject. For this reason I like to try many ways of explaining material in order to find the best fit for that particular student. With this, along with practice, I have found that not only will performance be improved but the student will gain confidence in the material.
