Fun Facts
People quickly learn that I drink Diet Coke like it is water; I definitely rock my Diet Coke t-shirt when I go to the store to take advantage of the "buy 2, get 3 free" soda deals. In high school I made sure I was always wearing one item of purple clothing in order to help teachers tell me apart from my twin sister. I love collecting Winnie-the-Pooh memorabilia, and I have a black Labrador Retriever named Frosty that thinks he's small enough to be a lap dog.
About Me
I'm a junior at UC Berkeley studying architecture and mathematics. When I graduate, I hope to attend a post-graduate program where I'm able to study the intricate relationship between architecture and mathematics, furthering my passion and understanding of both fields. My ultimate goal is to become a licensed architect that utilizes mathematical concepts during the design process in order to create stunning spaces that minimize environmental impact and maximize functionality.
I have experience tutoring elementary through high school students specifically in math. I was a volunteer at the Coredlia Library in Solano County for their after school tutoring program where I helped children mostly in elementary and middle school; I encountered a range of subjects, including arithmetic, pre-algebra, algebra I and II, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, and calculus. This volunteer experience consequently led to me becoming a private tutor for children and teens in the area that needed extra math support. Since starting college, I occasionally tutor at the local continuation high school. I mostly help in the chemistry department, but when needed, I will lend a hand in the algebra and geometry classes.
From my past experiences with tutoring, I've learned that sometimes a student needs help "translating" concepts discussed in class; certain ideas can seem like a foreign language, and as a tutor, I'm there to help students fully grasp subjects by explaining concepts in a way they are more likely to understand (i.e. relating it to everyday things and ideas). We work through problems together, so the student can build a solid foundation that will lead to success and confidence with any future question. And most importantly, I've learned to adapt my tutoring method to every student in order to make sure he/she obtains the most out of every session; the student's success is my only priority, and I will do everything in my power to make sure she/he reaches her/his goals.
