Fun Facts
I'm a trivia whiz! I'm not sure how, but all the random things I've learned throughout the years not only make me a whiz at parties, but have also paid off pretty well at trivia nights. It's one of my dreams to go on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and see how far I can make it. I'm also a TV junkie! You name it, I've probably seen it or have it in my queue to watch soon. Everything from action to comedy to drama to cartoons, I love it all!
About Me
I am a Junior Sociology major at Tulane with a minor in Business Management. I've been on the Dean's List every semester since I've been here, and I'm very passionate about helping others reach their full academic potential. My mother has been a teacher my whole life, so I've inherited most of my skills working with young people from her. When I graduate, I hope to attend law school and eventually go into nonprofit management.
Experience
Throughout all of my years in school I have been a tutor to friends and classmates who needed help. Like I said, my mom is a teacher so I grew up observing the way she taught me and others and applied it to my own tutoring. As a freshman at Tulane, I volunteered at Langston Hughes Academy as a tutor and reading buddy. This year, as a Junior, I serve as a mentor and tutor again to young girls at Langston Hughes. I'm so grateful to Frog Tutoring for enabling me to reach even more students!
Approach
As a tutor, I understand that everyone learns differently and at different speeds. In my experience, it's always helpful to work backwards and have students explain a problem. I encourage students to seek answers for themselves through trial and error. I don't give answers, I explain the method someone should use to find an answer and have them apply it to problems. In writing, I help students get a sense of what they're trying to say and how to frame it so people can understand.

English Tutoring
I have only taken English 101, in which I received an A. However, for the last 2 years I have written professionally with a nationally recognized website. Writing is so important to me as a hobby and potential career, so I have a special place in my heart for those who seek to improve their writing skills. I have tutored many friends in English Composition as well as American and British Literature, which is as simple as teasing out the meaning the author assigned to their work.
Political Science Tutoring
I took a semester of Political Science classes as a sophomore, and I achieved a B+ in all of them. I took classes in American Government, Comparative Politics, and Methods in Political Science. Tutoring these courses is about imparting the information, and developing a good set of research skills in a Methods course.
Sociology Tutoring
The lowest grade I have received in the 4 Sociology classes I've taken so far is a B+. This is my primary major, so I have a ton of experience in these classes and their content. I have experience most specifically with Research Design and Theory.
Spanish I Tutoring
I took Spanish 1 as a Freshman, and I received an A-. I actually needed tutoring initially in the language, but the help I received not only helped my grade but also my general understanding of the language. I have never tutored Spanish, but from receiving help myself I know how to help others in need.
Study Skills Tutoring
Study Skills is not a formalized course at Tulane, but as a student leader I have had to work out my school/work/social life/extracurricular balance. I understand that not everyone studies the same but I consider myself a people person, and as such I feel that I can help someone get a sense of what works best for them.
