Fun Facts
I'm very athletic and enjoy a variety of sports including basketball, tennis, snowboarding, triathlons, scuba diving, and hiking. Most recently, I have completed an Olympic Triathlon! However, I also am perfectly content curling up on the couch with a book. I'm from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area of Pennsylvania, but I absolutely LOVE Cleveland.
About Me
I graduated cum laude in May with a B.A. in Early Childhood Education from carroll-university">John carroll-university">Carroll University. I was on the Dean's List seven out of my eight semesters at carroll-university">John carroll-university">Carroll University. It was my goal to be an active community member on campus. Throughout my four years I was nominated to participate in the Emerging Leaders Program, a member of SUPB, a member and president of JCU Women's Club Basketball Team, a member, recruitment & marketing v.p. and president of JCU Skiers & Boarders, a big sister in Big Brothers Big Sisters, and a mentor to freshman during the Cleveland day of Caring. I pride myself as a life long learner; I have plans to earn my master's in education within three years. Eventually, I envision myself as a college professor.
As an early childhood major, I have had numerous experiences cleveland">tutoring. Since my freshman year I have been actively participating in school districts throughout Cleveland. I have tutored at Fairfax Elementary School, Boys Hope Girls Hope, and The Intergenerational School. Also, I spent a semester cleveland">tutoring a third-grade student twice a week in reading comprehension. During this time period I administered several formal reading assessments, and I created individualized cleveland">tutoring lessons based on his needs. His automaticity, prosody, and comprehension skills all improved. I completed my student teaching in a second grade classroom in the Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School district, and during this year long experience created hundreds of lesson plans.
I am passionate about education, and enjoy creating lessons that engage students. I believe in including students' interests into learning. It is also important for students to feel like they have an active role in their education; students are more willing to work hard when they understand the purpose or role of information.
