Fun Facts
One thing most people find out once they get to know me is that I am enthusiastic and encouraging. For me, a smile goes a long way! If ever my friends or family are upset or worried, I'll try to cheer them up with my goofy voice impersonations and offer a listening ear. In my free time I enjoy riding my bicycle, visiting bookstores and libraries, and spending time with my family. Someday I want to be fluent in German and Spanish and I also want to publish a children's book series.
About Me
Right now I am a junior at the memphis">University of Memphis about to start up my fall semester. For three semesters I have been on the Dean's List. At the end of my fall semester during my sophomore year, I decided that I wanted to become a teacher. My major is called Teaching All Learners, which will prepare me for a dual-license in both Elementary Education(K-6) and education/tennessee/memphis">Special Education (K-12). I have a strong desire to improve my own knowledge of education so that I can better help the students I will teach in the future.
During my spring semester I worked for Memphis Literacy Corps, which is a memphis">tutoring program that helps students with reading comprehension and more specifically to prepare them for the TCAPS. I met with two third grade students three times a week. It was a great experience getting to know the students I tutored and seeing them progress in their reading skills. I am looking forward to have another opportunity to instruct and encourage students in their academics.
For the majority of my education I was homeschooled by my mother as well as other instructors outside of my home. Although I struggled with science and math, I had a passion for writing. I had the opportunity to take writing classes in 9th grade, 10th grade, and 11th grade and I found them to be very constructive. I still have all of my notes from the classes and I often revert back to them for my college work. When I started my freshman year of college, I was concerned whether or not my home school education was adequate enough to prepare me for college courses. I was determined to not let this put me down, so through hard work and perseverance I was able to achieve the Dean's List my freshman year. This specific example has been part of my motivation to become a memphis">tutor as well as a teacher. It is my goal to encourage students and let them know that they can exceed in their academics even when it seems difficult and confusing.
