Fun Facts

My interest in math is what lead me to apply to the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science at maryland/columbia">columbia">maryland/columbia">columbia-university">maryland/columbia">columbia">maryland/columbia">Columbia University, and now I can't stop seeing how to apply math in my every day life!

During my free time, I love to swim (I swam competitively since I was 7) and run by the Hudson River. Its also still fun to just walk around New York and try to notice things I have never noticed before! Sometimes, if I have to meet a friend somewhere, I will forfeit the subway ride and walk.

About Me

I graduated from maryland/columbia">columbia">maryland/columbia">columbia-university">maryland/columbia">columbia">maryland/columbia">Columbia University in 2013 where I studied Operations Research-Engineering Management Systems. Operations Research is the study of "making better decisions," so in short, we study various mathematical methods and computer programming techniques and see how we can apply it to business to make optimal decisions. Now, I work at an advertising technology company as an Engineering Team Lead on our Engineering Quality Team.

Experience

Although my major was mostly focused on numbers, I actually used to be a chemical engineering major because I really enjoyed chemistry in high school and wanted to see how I could apply chemistry in a real world setting. In fact, during my summers in high school, I was a Teaching Assistant for a General Chemistry course at a local university. I certainly enjoyed helping others understand and hopefully they were able to come to love the subject as much as I do.

Approach

From my TAing experience, I have learned that patience is certainly the key to helping the student understand the material at a fundamental level because in some cases, (I have been in this situation many times myself) a student doesn't even know what question to ask or what exactly it is that they don't understand. As a manhattan">tutor, we must take the time to really listen, ask the correct questions, and figure out what exactly it is that the student doesn't understand.
