Fun Facts
My two major passions are dancing and downhill skiing. I dance Salsa and Ballroom every week, and I ski the double black slopes at Winter Park as often as possible.
About Me
My name is Diane, and I tutor English, French, History, Psychology, Algebra and Geometry. I have a Colorado Teaching Certificate for grades K-12, plus a Master’s degree from the University of California at Irvine and a Certificate of French Studies from the University of Neuchâtel in Switzerland.
Experience
I have been teaching in the Denver Public School system for a total of six years..I own a writing and editing company, and have tutored many high school and college students over the past ten years, including two Ph.D. students and three Masters students.
Approach
My approach to tutoring is an individualized one. For example, when tutoring English I ask the student to bring to the session something he or she has already written. Then, the student and I work together to revise the document so that it says what the student wants it to say. In my sessions the students learn grammar not by memorizing a lot of grammatical rules, but by studying their own writing to determine whether it communicates the intended message. I earned a Certificate of French Studies from the University of Neuchâtel in Switzerland. I have a B. A. and a Masters in French Language & Literature from the University of California, Irvine, where I taught French for two years. I speak fluent French, having learned it at a bilingual high school in Toronto, Canada. I have a Colorado Teaching Certificate for Grades Kindergarten through 12th Grade, and have taught in the Denver Public School system for ten years. My love for teaching French was recently rekindled when I served as guest teacher for the French teacher at the Denver Center for International Studies. I have the ability to inspire a love of learning a foreign language in my students.
