Fun Facts
I grew up in Arizona, but I love the ocean. I am an avid diver and will take any opportunity to get in the water! I also love dancing! My favorite style is ballet, but I have also taken contemporary/modern and jazz, and I am learning to salsa now.
I also have been lucky enough to do a lot of traveling, and my favorite places in the world (so far) are Australia, Greece, and Tahiti.
About Me
I am a freshman majoring in Marine Science and Biology and minoring in Chemistry, Spanish, and German at the University of Miami. My eventual goal is to get a PhD and work as an oceanographic researcher, specifically in the field of marine biology with sharks or marine mammals. I gravitate towards challenging subjects, and I know that having help when learning things that you feel challenged by can make a huge difference, so this is what I hope to accomplish as a tutor.
Experience
In my first year of high school I volunteered with a local elementary school in Arizona where I assisted a teacher with an after-school reading program for third-graders. For the next three years I volunteered as a tutor with a branch of the Boys and Girls Club of Phoenix where I helped kindergarteners through sixth graders with their homework when they had questions. Throughout high school my peers and I collaborated to reinforce the material we were learning by teaching each other.
Approach
I believe that structure, patience, and repetition are the keys to academic success. I have found that the first step to being successful is being organized, and then being able to follow an organized plan persistently. As a tutor I can provide a kind but firm approach to identifying weaknesses in understanding as well as in organization and study skills, and then help to create a plan and work with difficult material to help increase the student's knowledge and self-sufficiency.

Algebra Tutoring
I have taken up to Calculus and have received all A's in my math courses up until this point. Since math is such a cumulative subject, algebra is an integral part of higher level math courses and I am more than capable of using and explaining the building blocks of algebra, especially in the context of what students will need going forward in their math classes.
Algebra II Tutoring
I have taken up to Calculus and have received all A's in my math courses up until this point. Since math is such a cumulative subject, algebra is an integral part of higher level math courses and I am more than capable of using and explaining the building blocks of algebra, especially in the context of what students will need going forward in their math classes.
Anatomy Physiology I Tutoring
I took a year of purely anatomy and physiology in high school and then I took two years of Higher Level IB Biology, which is very anatomy and physiology intensive. I got all A's every year in those classes, and I scored a 5 on my IB Biology test. Since I am majoring in biology I am very passionate about biology, anatomy, and physiology, so I am very excited about tutoring in any of those subjects.
Biology Tutoring
In high school I took honors biology, anatomy and physiology, and two years of higher level IB biology, and got A's in all of those subjects. I got a 5 on my IB test as well. I am also majoring in biology, so I have a deep interest in the subject and I am knowledgeable in a variety of subjects under the umbrella of general biology.
Chemistry Tutoring
In high school I took one year of honors chemistry and two years of higher level IB chemistry, and I got A's all of those years. I got a five on the IB chemistry exam. I am also minoring in chemistry and tested out of the introductory chemistry class at UM, so I have a solid grasp of the basics of chemistry.
English Tutoring
In high school I took honors English one and two during my first two years and higher level IB English during my last two years. I earned all A's in those classes and I got a six on my IB English exam. I tested out of my university English requirements and I consider myself to be very good at organizing essays and helping others organize and edit essays, especially literary analyses.
Pre Algebra Tutoring

Homework Coach Tutoring
I believe that organization is the best way to manage a work load and am very good at creating structured homework and study schedules. I have three years of experience as a homework coach with the Boys and Girls Club, and I look forward to continuing to help students take control of their schedules by giving them the tools to plan their time effectively.
