Fun Facts

I love to have an evolving routine - where week-to-week my schedule changes and no two days are the same. Tutoring is great for this! I love to accomplish things. I have a library in my home, and I'm a purist when it comes to food. I don't like to mix or blend foods together. For example, casseroles are my worst eating nightmare! Though I can swim, I don't swim underwater because I have problems with my ears and they can't handle being submersed in water. And I collect magnets. In other words, lots of quirky, well-rounded things about me!

About Me

I was a Telecommunications Media Studies major and Spanish minor in the class of 2007 at Texas A&M University. I am an eternal learner, and if I could stay in school forever, I would. During college, I had an invaluable internship at CNN Headline News in Atlanta. I am a writer, a teacher, a non-profit ministry assistant, and I would like to obtain my Masters degree in Library Science and Information Systems.

My tutoring experience began at Texas A&M, where I took part in a semester seminar class to receive certification as a writing tutor and put those skills to use tutoring at the University Writing Center on campus. In that role I helped many graduate and undergraduate students hone their writing abilities to match their content knowledge. I also worked hand-in-hand with a Mays Business School professor and served as sole tutor to her business class one semester, where I continued to branch out and work with students in different situations. Finally, I was a middle school teacher for four years, where I taught science, English language arts, and Spanish I, II, and AP. I am certified to teach high school English and all subjects in grades 4-8. As a teacher, I have tutored and mentored countless students in many different subjects and levels.

My favorite method of teaching is one-on-one, where I can get to know and understand a student and become familiar with his or her strengths and struggles and processing of information. I prefer to have extended time to understand the needs of a student and enjoy formulating a plan to help him or her succeed. I also really love to help students build their writing skills, since I've found these abilities are vital in every discipline of study.
