Fun Facts

This year will be my third year on the Arizona State University Quidditch team, and I am looking forward to yet another year as a beater! This year we hope to participate in our third international tournament and defend our title of Arizona Cup champions! If I’m not playing quidditch you can find me splashing around in the pool, swimming laps or playing water polo. After all, a girl has got to rest! So I relax and wind down by reading a good book with my cat on my lap.

About Me

My name is Ashley Bleicher and I am a junior at Arizona State University this year. I am majoring in anthropology with minors in sustainability and Spanish with an emphasis in LGTBQ studies. I hope to graduate in 2014 and perhaps join Teach for America before enrolling in graduate school to study paleoanthropology.

My most recent phoenix">tutoring experience came this summer while I was interning abroad in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India with an organization called the International Alliance for the Prevention of AIDS (IAPA). While working with this organization I gained experience teaching classrooms of students about HIV/AIDS transmission and prevention as well as experience working individually with students after to follow up and make sure they understood the lesson. In addition I was able to phoenix">tutor students in English, health and hygiene, and sustainable gardening practices during my free time from teaching.

Personally, I find traditional ways of teaching to be a bit dry and boring sometimes. That is why I aim to make every subject fun and interactive so that students can really learn and absorb the information whilst thoroughly enjoying themselves. I use games, analogies, and many personalized reviews to make sure that my students are having fun and learning both their subject and to like school in general. I also utilize a lot of patience, offering guidance when needed but also making sure the student has plenty of opportunity and time to come to work things out on their own and build confidence in themselves and their own abilities.
