Fun Facts
I travel the world: including, but not limited to Nepal, Brazil, New Zealand etc. etc. People who encounter me would describe me as 'chill and relaxed'.. I like to read, play soccer, jam out in any musical instruments, have deep and witty conversations, and enjoy good food.
About Me
I graduated a small Christian liberal arts college in suburban Chicago called Wheaton College with B.S. in biology. I took physics and math courses with other medicine relevant science courses as I prepared for medical school, but my recent turn of events have got me greatly excited in a new field of study: Marine Science! One day I hope to hold a doctorate degree and become a leading expert on ocean conservation. I played soccer, ball-room danced, won musical performance awards while in college
Experience
For all four years of my college career, I volunteered as an ESL tutor in urban Chicago area on a weekly basis. I taught different age groups from 3rd grade to 6th grade. Also, during the last two summers, I taught introductory marine biology to 9-11 year old students in New York. I also worked as a Teacher's Assistance for upper class biology course while in college one semester.
I also have experiences with private tutoring in SAT math and elementary level statistics.
Approach
Most recently I asked one of the parents that asked me to tutor her child "Why is it important for your CHILD to excel in that subject?" My reason in asking was not to divert the subject of of conversation; rather, I wanted to know his/her motivations. In my experiences, real learning comes from the self rather than from the tutor. I find myself often facilitating my students' learning via piquing interests in the subject, involving them in a project, or come up with ways to have fun with it!

Algebra Tutoring

Last student and I have kept personalized, organized and thorough notes together, keeping track of all the steps it took to reach the solution. When tackling the complicated problems, I referred back to the notes to remind the student that most often, 'hard' questions are just an extension of the simple problems we've done prior.
