Fun Facts
The desire to learn new things and be active defines my personality. I enjoy playing sports (namely basketball and tennis), cooking, playing piano, photography, traveling, and singing. Likewise, I endeavor to try things I haven't done before, the most recent being jazz piano, mountain hiking, and making sushi. I was in London during the Beijing Olympics, in China right before the London Olympics, and I toured in South Africa with my college choir the summer after the 2010 World Cup.
About Me
I am a recent graduate from Capital University, with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics, Political Science, and English Literature, and a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance. I was extremely busy in college, completing four majors in four years, performing in piano and chamber music competitions, presenting research at conferences, and singing in the Chapel Choir (which took Gold at the 2012 World Choir Games!). I plan to take a few years off to get some more work experience and find out exactly what I want to do before heading back to school to get a Ph.D., most likely in mathematics.
I have several years of informal columbus">tutoring experience, teaching family friends and friends since I was twelve years old. I have tutored a variety of subjects from writing to physics and math, and have taught age groups from adults to younger kids. Most of my formal one-on-one columbus">tutoring experience comes from private piano teaching, with which I have about three years of experience.
I strongly believe in the potential of my students, and encourage their ability to find the answers without me supplying them. I focus on the long-term growth of my students, and see my responsibility as helping them become better independent learners. The best sense of accomplishment for me comes from instilling in students the mindset and skills to be successful in the future without any guidance.
