Fun Facts
I love to bake. When I'm feeling stressed from school and work, I like to come home and bake some goodies. Not only do I find baking relaxing, but at the end, I get to eat the goodies that I've made. It is always satisfying and yummy. I’m also crazy about scrapbooking. Give me some paper, glue, and a few pictures and I’m good to go.
About Me
I am a sophomore at the University of Arizona. I am majoring in Mathematics with a minor in science/arizona/tucson">Computer Science. I recently transferred from Cochise College where I received my Associates in Elementary Education just after deciding to change my major to Mathematics because of my love for math. After graduation, I plan to stay at the University of Arizona and receive my Masters in Education. With this I hope to one day become a high school math teacher.
I spent the last year working at a high school in vista">Sierra Vista working with students on improving their AIMS testing scores in the area of math. I love being able to work one-on-one with students helping them to understand the material better. I have been tucson">tutoring friends and family since the beginning of high school. I have also tutored high school students from other schools in areas including but not limited to Algebra I & II and Geometry.
While working with students I have noticed that one of the easiest ways to remember something in math is to be able to relate it to something that the student is interested in. Say the student is interested in cars. When working with circles it’s easy to see a connection with tires. If the topic cannot be related to a certain topic, there is usually something in the real world that a student can relate to. Take absolute value. When demonstrating absolute value you can look at a map and think of distance. We wouldn’t say that we travel negative miles when traveling west, would we? This tends to not only help students remember topics better, but also makes math a little more enjoyable.
