Fun Facts

I enjoy playing basketball with friends, exploring the great city of washington/seattle">Seattle and watching the Portland Trail Blazers on television. I like to have a good time, laugh, smile and enjoy life. I'm always thinking positively and looking on the bright side and taking whatever opportunity comes my way.

About Me

My name is Tyler Yamaguchi and I am an Economics Major and Japanese Minor at washington/seattle">seattle-university">washington/seattle">Seattle University. I understand the privilege I have going to a university such as washington/seattle">seattle-university">washington/seattle">Seattle University so I always work hard and make the most out of my time here. I keep my family and friends very close to me, as they both play a large role in my life.

The experience I have as a washington/washington/seattle">seattle">tutor and mentor can all be credited to my work done at Bailey Gatzert Elementary School. As a volunteer, I tutored under-privileged 4th and 5th grade students in math, science and reading. I also was the leader of the STEM Club (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) once a week for the duration of my entire sophomore year at washington/seattle">seattle-university">washington/seattle">Seattle University. Although my position as a leader for the STEM Club gave me great experience, I am more effective as a one on one washington/washington/seattle">seattle">tutor for a student.

My washington/washington/seattle">seattle">tutoring approach involves patience, encouragement and repetition. I am able to put myself in the shoes of students and understand the frustration they may have towards a certain subject. I believe the best way to help a student is through positive reinforcement, and having the mindset of wanting to learn rather than feeling as if they have to. If a safe and supportive learning environment is established, the student will be able to maximize the most out of a washington/washington/seattle">seattle">tutoring session. One of the first priorities I would have with a student would be to make sure he/she feels that they are in a safe learning environment.
