Fun Facts
My favorite subjects are English and French. I love to read, and always have since I was a child. I feel so lucky for this, and want to help you learn to love reading, too! If I had to persuade somebody why reading is so important, I would say that reading is essentially the only superpower we can actually possess, because it allows us to travel to other places and basically read the author's mind! Plus, the better reader you are, the better writer you will be and vice versa.
Other things I like to do in my spare time are playing guitar, shopping for new records at the music store, and playing tennis.
About Me
This is my third year at wayne-state-university">Wayne State University. So far, I absolutely love living in Detroit, but following my graduation in the spring, I would love to spend a summer studying in France. Then, I aim to continue my studies of French literature at New York University's Paris campus. One day I would love to live in France full-time! My dream career would be to work in the publishing field, as either a translator or an editor.
I was a peer-detroit">tutor this past summer with a program called APEX (Scholars. The goal of the program was to help prepare underserved (mostly inner-city) high school graduates for college enrollment in the fall. This involved explaining basic composition concepts, such as how to formulate a thesis, how to organize an essay, and mastering grammar and mechanics.
My philosophy of learning is that we are all capable of knowing, but we just might not know it yet! To apply this to my detroit">tutoring approach, I avoid simply giving you the answer, instead opting to ask you the right questions to guide you towards figuring out the answer for yourself. But don't worry, if you're really stuck I'll help you out. Above all, I find that my job as a detroit">tutor involves guiding students towards better self-understanding. For example, many of my tutees this summer claimed they had "writers block" when it came time to write their personal memoirs. But I found that if I guided them by asking them questions, they had no trouble at all and actually came to really enjoy the assignment and the writing process.
