Fun Facts

I love animals, and have worked on a science project to help save an endangered species of bear called "sun bears". Sun bears are the smallest bears in the world, and they are the only tropical bear. They are called sun bears because of the golden patch on their chest. We learned a lot from that project, and we hope that that knowledge will help the sun bears to survive and thrive.

About Me

I am a teacher who lives in Seattle, Washington. Among other projects, I currently am working with refugee and immigrant youth who are learning computer programming in Python, in order to develop skills for a good job when they graduate and enter the job market.

Experience

I have tutored at all grade levels from kindergarten to graduate school, in subjects ranging from French language to mathematics to computer programming. What all of these experiences have in common is the gratification of kindling the joy and excitement that comes from realizing how new knowledge and skills can be used to build on what the student already knows, and to take it further.

Approach

I provide a great deal of focused attention and encouragement to promote active learning and deep understanding. I look for ways to connect the skills and the material to the student's interests, and to awaken the joy of discovering unexpected connections in how things work.
