Fun Facts
I am a huge fan of the outdoors. I love to hike, climb, and run. I'm also an identical twin, so somewhere out there, there's another me you might run into. And, you'll find out fairly quickly that I think that the highest form of humor is a pun.
About Me
I'm a recent graduate of Whitman College in good old Walla Walla Washington. I graduated with a dual degree in biology and geology, one that only three people in my class even attempted. I love both sciences, and my passion for them really does come across.
Experience
I think the most important part about learning something is understanding why you are learning about it. That's why my experience, working for real scientists on real research is so invaluable. I've actually used the material that was taught in a real world situation. In biology, I've done research on bumble bees and have a paper published as a result. In geology, I've done research along some of the major faults in New Zealand.
Approach
My approach is to establish an understanding of the problems, so the next time you won't need a tutor. It's simple to do a problem set with someone who knows what they're doing, but that's not they way it's going to be on a test. That's why I try to find the part of the work my students are most interested in, and relate everything back to what they care about. Usually, they start to actually like the material by the end of it all.
