Fun Facts
For the past five years, I have tutored in the areas of math, reading and writing, specializing in students with learning disabilities. I am very patient and I understand that each student learns differently- no kind of education is "one size fits all." I also enjoy teaching my students organizational tips, time management, productive study habits, and confidence boosters. I also play piano, write music and have a successful art website.
About Me
I am a senior sociology major at Santa Clara University. I have previously attended University of San Francisco and the West Valley Middle College Program. I graduated High School with a 4.5 GPA, and was also active in Orchestra and the Robotics team.
After graduating from Santa Clara, I will continue on in a PhD program for sociology. I plan on using my degree to teach, research, and publish. Tutoring is a long-term passion of mine and I treat all my students with utmost respect
Experience
I have tutored numerous students, typically bi-weekly or as needed, in the areas of Math, Writing and reading comprehension since I was fifteen. After several retail jobs, I realized that my true passion was in tutoring and helping students recognize their strengths while building a "tool kit" that will help them in areas that extend beyond the classroom. My philosophy is to help students in a way so they will successfully be able to replicate problem-solving individually, and with confidence.
Approach
I learned through personal experience of having a tutor when I was young just how helpful it is to be able to talk through academic challenges in a safe and non-judgmental atmosphere. I don't believe in "talking at" students but prefer talking WITH them, just as friends would have a conversation.Everyone learns differently! I like to incorporate all learning styles with my students so that I can ultimately tailor our tutoring sessions to their specific needs.

As a Sociology major, I read all the time! Most of the content comes from textbooks and published research, so I understand that academic texts are often challenging or seem cryptic at first. For a few years, I worked as a "Reading Buddy" for elementary school students, and outside of academics, I also love to read in my spare time.

I have always loved words and writing, and through my education I have learned helpful tips and tricks at building an academically strong paper. Elementary Math Tutoring
My first tutoring "gig" was teaching elementary level students math basics, while helping them build a strong foundation for their future math skills. I believe in introducing study skills and basic organization tips when students are young so they can start these healthy habits early on. I am very creative when it comes to teaching elementary math. One former student of mine faced challenges with memorizing times tables, so I developed times tables games to make the learning process fun and hands on. Within a few weeks, her times tables were solid!
Study Skills Tutoring
Between volunteering, working, and being a full time student (who still wants to have some social life!) I have developed highly useful time management and study skills which include organization and creative ways of memorizing and applying material.
