Fun Facts

Something that people learn about me really quickly is that I may be little, but I am quite loud and energetic. I love life, and I love loving life. I also love sports, specifically football, volleyball, and hockey, and can talk about it a lot. I am an only child, raised by my grandmother, and am venturing outside of Nevada for my second semester! I am not the greatest dancer or singer...but I like to pretend that I am! Someday, I hope to change the world.

About Me

I am a junior History major at Grand Canyon University. I graduated in May of 2015 with my Associates of Arts from Western Nevada College as a Magna Cum Laude; my final GPA there was a 3.75. I finished out last semester with a 4.0. Upon graduation, I will go to grad school, hopefully somewhere back east and get my Masters in Public History. My ultimate goal is to either work in the Smithsonian or Holocaust Museum, or work for the Federal Government as a historian.

Experience

In Western Nevada College, I had the opportunity to tutor college students weekly, in areas such as history and English, and if students every needed me to, Spanish. I had that job for two years and loved it! I extended that love further by becoming a private tutor and really helping out the elementary school aged children during that two year span as well all over Fallon. I love being able to help others, and to give back as much as I can!

Approach

As good as I am at some subjects, I am well aware of my weaknesses, and areas that I can certainly improve on. I've always loved learning and education, and found that I got the best help from tutors who love education as much as I do. As a tutor, I try to bring this excitement to my students, because that excitement can be quite contagious and beneficial. I am loving, kind, caring, and patient with my students, and have no problem breaking things down and explaining more as needed.

English Tutoring

In college, I took English 101, 102, and 223, and passed all of them with A's. As a tutor, I helped with English at the 102 level or lower for the college students at Western Nevada. English is a part of my degree because as a History major, I really need to be strong with my English, and writing it because I do a lot of analysis and writing, so my knowledge needs to be really strong. I have also learned different tricks to help out with the language, so that always helps.

History Tutoring

I am a history major, so of course I would love to help out with history. At Western Nevada College, I took History 101, 102, (Survey of American History) 105 , 106, (Survey of European History) and 111 (U.S. Constitutional and Nevada History). With the exception of History 101 (I got an A-), I passed all of those classes with solid As. I've tutored a lot of those courses to success. At GCU, I've taken History 306 (Historians in Theory and Practice), History 110 (Themes in World History), and History 325 (Ancient Mediterranean History) and passed those with As as well. I am currently taking History 255 (Historical Research and Applied Methods) and History 386 (War and Revolution). I am quite committed.

Reading Comprehension Tutoring

I have not taken any classes in regards to reading comprehension. However, I am an honors student, and was always in upper division English classes. I know how to comprehend what I am reading rather well, and as a future historian, I better learn how to read rather well.

Spanish I Tutoring

I took two years of Spanish at Western Nevada College and in High School (passed all with As, a B, and a C). However, I also grew up with the language and can speak it better than I can write it. I was a Spanish tutor at WNC, but they never needed me; instead I helped a friend out in Spanish I this past semester. I am currently working on the grammar and writing basics of Spanish to this day.

Spanish II Tutoring

I took two years of Spanish at Western Nevada College and in High School (passed all with As, a B, and a C). However, I also grew up with the language and can speak it better than I can write it. I was a Spanish tutor at WNC, but they never needed me; instead I helped a friend out in Spanish I this past semester. Spanish III Tutoring

Study Skills Tutoring

I am an honors student. As said honors student, I have been very meticulous my entire academic career with keeping my grades up and establishing strong study skill sessions. When people came to see me for help, I always gave them pointers on how and what to study, and how to best prepare them for exams and anything else that came their way.

Writing Tutoring

As previously mentioned, I am a history major, so my field has a lot to do with writing, and having to write really well. I have written papers in MLA, APA, and Turabian/Chicago formatting. I love helping people find their voice in their papers and helping with the overall mechanics and grammar.

AP English Tutoring

I took AP English in High School and got an A in it, but did not do so well on the AP exam. At Western Nevada College, I took English 102, which was pretty much AP English all over again, and got an A in it. I have learned, albeit the hard way, how to properly do a literary analysis and poem explication, in addition to other requirements.

AP History Tutoring

I did not take AP History in High School. However, I passed that class with flying colors (and should have, in theory, been in AP History); however I did take Honors World History and AP American Government and passed both of those with As. Again, I am a history major, so I have expanded my knowledge with history and would love to help others out with this area.

Homework Coach Tutoring

I feel that I can be a great motivation when it comes to homework. I have helped students with their homework assignments, and have found that sometimes, they just need that extra little push. I know that I am able to provide that extra push and motivation that is needed, as I am neither a teacher or a parent.

Writing Advance Tutoring

We didn't have advanced writing courses in my high school, just advanced courses of a different nature. However, over the years I have strengthened my writing ability. Whatever writing style you need help in, and whatever you need looked over, I am your girl.

Spanish Tutoring

Having taken Spanish at the High School and College levels, I feel like I am prepared enough to help out at the Middle school level. I have found that there is not really much a difference based on the school level, other than how far along in the basics a person is. Having grown up with the language in addition to being in classes, I once again feel like I can help.

Elementary Math Tutoring

I am not going to lie, I am not the strongest at math, hence why I am a history major. However, math at the elementary level is easy for me to grasp on to and break down for the students, without confusing the both of us in the process. When I babysat and tutored individual, all their math was elementary math, and we were able to get that done together quite efficiently.

Social Studies Tutoring

This is going to sound really redundant, but being part of a history major is having a sure foundation in social studies. I help kids look at their world's history from a very basic and broad point of view. Again, if I need to break things down and explain to them in a way that they can understand, I am more than happy to do that.

Microsoft Excel Tutoring

I have worked with Microsoft Excel pretty much my entire academic career. I have learned how to make spreadsheets, data bases, email lists, charts, etc. with them. I have also learned how to preform basic functions, especially math functions with excel.

Microsoft PowerPoint Tutoring

I virtually live off of Microsoft PowerPoint. I've had tons of presentations to do on PowerPoint, especially over the years. I've really mastered the art of making slideshow presentations, and all of the perks that go with Microsoft Powerpoint.

Microsoft Windows Tutoring

My PC is actually uses Microsoft Windows. If we are honestly speaking, I have more experience with this software as I have almost always used it. I am confident that I can successfully help any person out with this software.

Microsoft Word Tutoring

As much as I said I have virtually lived off of Microsoft PowerPoint, I have lived more off of Microsoft Word. I have learned the basics as a child, which is great and everything, but I went more in depth as I got older. Also, since a huge part of my life is revolved around essays, I am very familiar with Word, and will be happy to pass that expertise on.
