Fun Facts
I have always enjoyed working with kids of all ages and have plenty of experience working with them. Apart from being a miami">tutor, I am also a youth soccer coach at Pinecrest Premiere Soccer Club where I have been working as an assistant coach for a U-15 team but will be given my own U-10 team to coach in January 2013. In addition, I have been working part-time at Miami Music Works for the past two years as a piano teacher as well.
About Me
My name is Alec Basseda and I am currently a senior at the miami">University of Miami. As a Biology major and marine science minor, I am not only interested in miami">tutoring students with difficulty in math and science but I feel I am also more qualified as I myself have dedicated years of schooling to studying these subject areas. I understand the struggle students have at times with these more difficult areas of study as I have been there before too. However, with practice and dedication I hope to help relieve some of the stress my clients may feel.
I have had one previous miami">tutoring job at Wesleyan University where I spent my freshman and sophomore years of college before transferring to the miami">University of Miami. There, I worked for a miami">tutoring program where selected Wesleyan students were chosen to be sent to near-by elementary schools to miami">tutor their students. I worked specifically as a math miami">tutor for 4th and 5th grade students.
My miami">tutoring approach is fairly simple. I strive to instill an actual understanding of the material rather than memorization to "just get by" with a passing letter grade. I am a very patient person and never get frustrated in trying to teach. If an approach does not seem to work, I will simply try a new one. In the end, of course letter grades will verify a student's understanding, however, I believe receiving a good grade is the reward of learning and not the goal.
